Die castings of lighting fixtures for outdoor use need to meet various protective grade requirements to adapt to the complex outdoor environment. First, they must be waterproof and dustproof. Exposed to rain, dew, dust, and other elements for a long time outdoors, the die castings must reach a certain IP rating to completely prevent dust from entering and withstand water splashing from any angle without affecting the internal components inside the die casting cavity. In harsh areas with heavy rain or heavy dust, they should meet the IP67 or IP68 standard.
Through optimized design and selection of high-quality sealing material, it is ensured that rainwater and dust cannot enter the lighting fixtures through the die castings and damage the circuits. Second, they need to have corrosion resistance. Outdoors, the die castings are prone to corrosion caused by polluted rainwater, salt spray in coastal areas, and acidic/alkaline substances in industrial areas. Therefore, the die castings should be made of corrosion-resistant materials or undergo surface treatment processes such as anodizing, electrostatic spraying, and electrophoresis to form a protective layer.
This prevents the castings from rusting, oxidizing, and surface delamination, ensuring no performance degradation and structural integrity during long-term use. In addition, they must meet anti-aging and weather resistance requirements. Under long-term outdoor UV radiation and temperature changes (from high to low), the material and surface treatment of the die castings should be resistant to UV damage, without blistering or fading. At the same time, the material should have good temperature adaptability to ensure stable performance in various environments. In case of accidental bumps and impacts outdoors, the die castings need to have a certain mechanical strength to withstand a certain degree of external impact without damage, effectively protecting the built-in lighting emitting devices.
